Dr. Auzeen Shariati joined the Department of Criminology and Justice in Fall 2020 as an Assistant Professor. She was previously an Assistant Professor at St. Joseph’s College NY. She earned her PhD in Public Affairs and Criminal Justice from Florida International University in 2017.

 

Dr. Shariati studies environmental criminology, particularly crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED), in the context of school safety. In addition, she has studied the impact of body-worn cameras (BWCs) on police officers’ perception and behavior. Dr. Shariati’s most recent work examines environmental factors that yields unequal access to formal and informal domestic violence victim support services.

 

She has published her research in peer-reviewed academic journals such as Journal of School Violence, Journal of Criminal Justice, Planning Practice and Research, Homicide Studies, and Studies in Conflict and Terrorism. She is also the co-author of a chapter in a book entitled “Preventing Crime and Violence”.

 

Dr. Shariati is originally from Iran. She holds an MA in Criminal Law and Criminology from Allameh Tabataba’I University and a BA in Judicial Law from University of Tehran. Formerly, she was an Attorney at Law at the Iranian Central Bar Association where she worked on a variety of cases, including criminal law and civil law.
