James Arey is a full time employee of the New Orleans Police Department assigned to Special Operations. His primary duty is Commander of the SWAT Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT). He is also in charge of establishing a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) within the 8 districts of the police department. This involves a 40 hour POST certified training program and close coordination with the mental health providers and consumers within the community.
In 2003, Dr. Arey was chosen as supervisor of the year by his peers within the department. Graduate of the U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation National Negotiation Course at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
