Dr. Anthony Ladd weighed in on the psychological affects of the BP oil spill in a recent interview with Truthout, a forum dedicated to broadening the political discussion.

Dr. Talukdar presents paper at the 73rd annual meeting of the Southern Sociological Society April 21-24 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Emmanuel David, '03, recently received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Colorado. and has accepted a teaching position at Villanova University.

Kylie Faure, a Social Justice Scholar, recently co-presented a paper about her service learning project at the Freret Neighborhood Center at the Gulf-South Summit on Service Learning and Civic Engagement through Higher Education.

Dr. Angel Parham presented her paper, "Caribbean and Creole in New Orleans," on Saturday Feb. 27 at the Francophone Caribbean and North American International Conference at Florida State University.

Dr. Anthony Ladd, Professor of Sociology, and Dr. Kathleen Fitzgerald, recent Visiting Associate Professor of Sociology, delivered the invited keynote addresses to the Sociology Research Symposium at Oklahoma State University, February 18 - 20, 2010.

Rose Kelley, a sociology senior and a Social Justice Scholar, presented her paper, "The Charter School Debate in Post-Katrina New Orleans," at the 28th SouthEastern Undergraduate Sociology Symposium (SEUSS), Feb. 19-20, at Emory University in Atlanta.

Dr. Parham was contacted by WWL news and asked to provide some background on the situation in Haiti. A news team interviewed her on campus and a part of that interview was used for the evening news on Friday January 15, 2010.

Jayna Jenson has been awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.

Anthony Ladd, Professor of Sociology, was a presenter and panelist on a session entitled: "New and Emerging Trends in Environmental Sociology" at the annual meetings of the Mid-South Sociological Association in Lafayette, LA, November 4th - 7th.
