Leslie G. Parr, Ph.D., is the journalism sequence head. Parr earned a Ph.D. in U.S. history from Tulane and an M.F.A. in photography, also from Tulane. She has worked professionally as a photojournalist and writer and has published three books. She completed an online photography project for "The Journal of American History" about Hurricane Katrina and has led four Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities teacher institutes for advanced study. Parr is a former director of the Center for the Study of New Orleans.
In 2016 she was awarded the Dux Academicus, given to "an outstanding member of the faculty of Loyola University New Orleans who through demonstrated ability is able to impart the knowledge and wisdom of the liberal arts and sciences or the professions to students in a manner consistent with the distinctive philosophy of Loyola as a Jesuit institution of higher education."
