Exciting new directions
Today’s mass communication industry is changing in exciting new directions and migrating into new realms like social media. At Loyola University New Orleans School of Mass Communication we are preparing students for this dynamic future with our majors in advertising, journalism, public relations and visual communication.
In our journalism sequence, students study journalism and produce stories for broadcast, print and digital platforms. Students interested in strategic communications can learn either advertising or public relations. Students who are more creative and visually oriented can major in visual communication.
All students graduate having at least one internship, and all of our students deal with real-world clients. From our layout and design classes to advertising and public relations campaigns, students listen to client needs, study the issues and craft solutions for a spectrum of companies and organizations.
We’re the home of the internationally respected Shawn M. Donnelley Center for Nonprofit Communications and the Center for Environmental Communication. The Donnelley Center has engaged with more than 300 nonprofits in the New Orleans area and beyond. The Center for Environmental Communication is one of the few centers in the United States that specializes in training communicators in covering environmental issues.
Our graduates are everywhere – from Houma to Honolulu. They’re working at global strategic communications companies such as Ketchum, Peter Mayer and Weber Shandwick. They are reporters and anchors at ESPN, NBC and the "San Diego Union Tribune," "The Times-Picayune" and the "New Orleans Advocate." They’re writing. They’re creating. They’re shaking things up. Why don’t you join them? Come discover your future at Loyola University’s School of Mass Communication.
